SLOC GUIDELINES - Updated March, 1998
High School -Music
Awards Committee
Reports to: Vice-President, Artistic Operations
The
High School Music Awards Committee shall review local high school musicals and,
based on set criteria, award prize money and trophies to two schools for best
performances. (See file for categories and prize amounts.)
1. Send
letter to local high schools in September. Attach a list of the Evaluation
Criteria and a Registration Form for the school contact to fill out and return.
Expect some musicals in November as well as in the Spring.
2. Form a
committee of reviewers. The committee should consist of musical directors,
directors, performers, lighting technicians, etc., based on the criteria sheets
and availability. Strive to have all committee members attend all of the shows,
all on the same dates.
3. Set up
dates and reserve tickets. Call the committee members and discuss dates of
shows. Choose the date when all or most are available. Talk to the high school
contacts and reserve the number of tickets you will need for the committee (no
more than eight).
4. Attend
the shows. Give reviewers directions to the high schools if necessary. Carpool
if possible. Give each reviewer an Evaluation Criteria form. Reviewers rate each
show based on its own merit without comparing it to a previous or an upcoming
show. Evaluation Criteria forms must be sent to the Chair within one week after
each show.
5. Announce
winners of the awards and contact winning schools.
Have trophies engraved appropriately and get checks drawn up by the Treasurer.
Contact the High Schools and plan the presentation to the school, preferably at
a school assembly. Notify committee members and SLOC President of the dates of
presentations.
6. Present
the awards. Committee Chair and President of the Company should be at the award
presentation. Committee members may also wish to attend.
7. Announce
the awards. Notify local newspapers through the Vice-President,
Public Relations. Write up an article for the next SLOC Spotlight. Announce the
winners at the June Annual Meeting.
